I had a very pleasant experience on the Coach USA bus from Port Authority on 41st between 8th and 9th avenues. The bus comes every 45 min, which is its duration. I rode 8 am on Saturday without issue. Cash or use the app, $18.50.

I would like to add (based on my own recent experience) for anyone considering transport options between Manhattan and Newark or vice versa, do NOT take the Newark Liberty Airport Express bus. It is terrible. It sounds great – $17 one way, direct from Manhattan to Newark (so no changes required), bus comes every 15 minutes, but it is a total disaster. Buses are notoriously running late and are overcrowded to the point that they are often completely full when they arrive to your stop. People are often left stranded and often end up missing their flights. Limited to no information/communication and employees are extremely rude and unprofessional. Whatever you do, do not buy your tickets online in advance. They are often unable to scan or accept them. Only pay cash once you are on the bus. But if at all possible, don’t take this bus. If there are 3 or more people in your group, take a car or taxi. If less people/you are on a budget, use the train option from Penn Station – NJ Transit & then Air Train. Whatever you do, allow plenty of time (more than you think you need) because all transport options for NYC are often delayed and unpredictable because of such heavy traffic. The train option if probably the fastest/most efficient as well as one of the cheapest.

I’d budget at least 90-120 minutes, depending mostly on how long you have to wait at Penn Station for a train

Any suggestion on how much time from end to end, worst case scenario (had to wait at each stop)? Thanks!

I’m struggling to use the NJ transit app to figure out what ticket I need to get from NJ (Weehawken aka W) to EWR. I see lots of route options based on times in google but they don’t always correspond to station names for NJ transit. It looks like I need to travel 3 zones to get from W to EWR. Can I just buy one ticket from NJ transit for 3 zones? Do I need multiple tickets for 108 and GO28? Any advice appreciated. I so wish the NJ transit app were easier to use!

I use the same train route. One correction: you have to get off the NJTransit train at EWR Station, not Newark Penn Station. The Air Train doesn’t go to Newark Penn Station.

Take NJ Transit NE Corridor train from Manhattan to Newark Liberty Airport Station to get the Air Train to the airport terminal.

Newark PENN Station is the stop BEFORE the airport in downtown Newark.

We used them 3 years ago to take a family of 4 from JFK to mid-own Manhattan. It was a nice big Lincoln Town Car with a friendly driver and the final total was something like $60-$65 including tolls/tip. Plenty of space for our stroller and luggage which would have been impractical for the train. They frequently have coupons which are not too hard to find.
